St. Tammany Parish Government Saves Over $2 Million to Date Through New Approach to Projects
St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper has changed the way district infrastructure projects are initiated in St. Tammany through bundling district road projects in close proximity to save money. Four separate projects initiated in 2020 and implemented using the bundling approach produced a combined cost savings of $2,067,640.40. Because of this immense return and successful implementation, all district road packages will utilize this new model going forward.
“Saving money at the start of each project simply by using this new approach — grouping projects in the same area — means we have more money available to invest in the next project,” said Mike Cooper, St. Tammany Parish President. “Our infrastructure investments are worth every dollar we spend. This is a new way to meet a fundamental need in a fiscally responsible way.”
President Cooper worked closely with the St. Tammany Parish Council, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Engineering, and the Department of Procurement to implement the new process.
