Patrons Reminded: A Portion of the Tammany Trace to Close for a Prolonged Period Beginning Monday, October 19, 2020
Tammany Trace patrons are reminded that a portion of the Tammany Trace will close beginning Monday, October 19, 2020, from the southern edge of the Little Creek bridge — to the northern edge of the Koop Drive Loop — approximately 560 feet. The closure is part of the I-12 widening project in partnership with the DOTD. Patrons will have access to the Tammany Trace at Dove Park, and at the Koop Drive Trailhead, however, there will be no access between these two points on the Trace.
“The safety of citizens is the most important reason for this closure. There will be overhead construction with heavy equipment and concrete, as well as equipment staging in the closure area, and we want to ensure this area is free from pedestrian and bicycle traffic for that reason,” said Mike Cooper, St. Tammany Parish President. “We thank citizens for their understanding and ask for your help in raising awareness about the closure.”
“We are asking citizens to have patience as we work on this project. We asked for this closure, and felt it was necessary, so that we minimize the risk to Trace Patrons as we work overhead. We thank Parish Government for working with us to help secure the closure and get the word out to the community,” said Louisiana DOTD Secretary, Shawn Wilson, Ph.D.
Patrons wishing to travel to Mandeville via the Trace can access the portion of the Trace south of the closure and park in the lot adjacent to the Tammany Trace on Dove Park Road. Patrons wishing to travel to Abita Springs/Covington via the Tammany Trace can access the Trace north of the closure and park at the Koop Drive Trailhead to access the Trace there. The safety of St. Tammany citizens while this project proceeds is paramount, and as such, there will be no way to utilize the entire length of the Trace on this stretch while the closure is underway. Parish Government suggests using the access points available on the Trace to enjoy it.
