St. Tammany Fishing Pier Update
As a result of unanticipated construction issues, the opening of the St. Tammany Fishing Pier will be delayed until sometime in the first Quarter of 2012. Construction is continuing on the pier structure and pedestrian timber bridge, but some additional construction constraints have slowed progress.
The pier, located next to the new I-10 twin span structures on Lake Pontchartrain in Slidell, is scheduled to be fully operational with concessions, bait shop and rest rooms by the end of the first Quarter of 2012. For updates and construction photos of the St. Tammany Fishing Pier please visit www.stpgov.org/gofishing.php.

Holiday Pet Advice from St. Tammany Animal Services
During the holiday season, parents love nothing more than to see a child break into a gigantic smile. Undoubtedly, a new puppy or kitten wearing a big red bow would receive such a reaction.
If your family has long been planning to adopt a new pet - and you have done the research about the kind of animal that would be a good fit—then perhaps the holidays are a wonderful time to introduce your new family member. But if it seems more like a last-minute idea or an impulsive one, here are some facts to consider:
• A new dog or puppy may not be house-broken, may chew your shoes or may cry loudly at night. A new kitten may shred the sofa fabric or attempt to scratch if backed into a corner by a young child.
• The initial excitement your children have for the new pet may wear off in a week or two, and you will still be responsible for daily care of your pet (including walks in a downpour) for years to come.
• A new pet not only requires time, but money: you will need to buy food and supplies and pay vet bills. With a dog, you may need to pay for training classes, too.
• Although you know you have a lovely home, your new pet will need time to adjust to its new surroundings.
We do not recommend giving a pet as a...

Governor Jindal has proclaimed December 2011 as “General Aviation Appreciation Month” in the state of Louisiana, affirming the multifaceted role that general aviation plays in the state. From enabling commerce to playing a critical role in emergency response, general aviation contributes over two billion dollars to the state’s economy.
St. Tammany has two general aviation airports, the St. Tammany Regional Airport and the Slidell Municipal Airport. Together, they provide services to the 225 aircraft registered in St. Tammany as well as visitors.
The Slidell Municipal Airport is able to handle small corporate jets with its 5,000 foot runway. It’s proximity to I-12 makes it an ideal site for business use for eastern St. Tammany Parish.
The St. Tammany Regional Airport is centrally located in the parish on Highway 36. While smaller than its sister airport in Slidell, the Regional Airport has just finished an extension of its apron and taxiway with more improvements planned.
“It is important to continue increasing the capacity of our airports,” said Parish President Pat Brister. “Transportation by air is very important as we position ourselves for future economic growth.”
“The Slidell Municipal Airport is one of the largest general aviation airports in Louisiana and it is extremely important to the City of Slidell and St. Tammany Parish,” said Slidell Mayor Freddy...
