Letters to Leaders

A MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH PRESIDENT, JANUARY 13, 2021

Good afternoon,

I am again reiterating my call to citizens to exercise personal responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19, to protect the most vulnerable in our community, and to prevent local hospitals from suffering continued strain on their resources and their medical staff through a taped video message.

It is critically important for every one of us to continue to take mitigation measures to prevent the spread of COVID. Last week in St. Tammany, we saw our highest Percent Positivity rate yet at 16.7 %. While we have seen a slight decline in this week’s rate: 15.4%, we’ve now remained above 10% for four consecutive weeks.

Health professionals are telling us that informal social gatherings are a primary contributor to the spread of COVID. Their recommendation is to avoid gatherings with people outside of your own household. The Governor has urged any employer who can, to offer a remote work option to employees, as we are doing here in St. Tammany Parish Government.

I ask each of you to help me spread this message.

Today I issued a new Executive Order, which you may view here, continuing our Modified Phase II through February 10, 2021.

Watch the entire video message here.

For daily updates on COVID-19 including daily data for St. Tammany from the Louisiana Department of Health, visit www.stpgov.org/covid19.

Should you have questions or if I may be of assistance to you in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Michael B. Cooper
Parish President
