Summary: Under the direction of their assigned Supervisor. The Utility Maintenance Specialist 2 will assist in the maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plants, sewer collection lines, lift stations, water distribution systems, well pumps, and all other sewer and water infrastructure.

Assist in the maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plants, sewer collection lines, lift stations, water distribution systems, well pumps, and all other sewer and water infrastructure; example tasks are:
Monitor 200 lift stations operation
Monitor water wells operation
Flush fire hydrants
Change out pumps
Clean/change floats, switches, breakers, contactors,
Deliver Chlorine to wells
Install meters, replace meters, read meters, upload data and transmit to billing, turn water on/off
Repair line breaks
Clean, jet sewer lines
Operate relevant equipment, trucks and tractors
Check to ensure that equipment is properly serviced and in good working order
Shall be available to work additional hours as required in emergency situations
This position may be required to be on-call during nights and weekends

Competencies: Must be able to correctly identify various parts and fittings that are required to make repairs to sewer and water infrastructure. Must have a general knowledge of the parts for repair of electrical panels. Must have a general knowledge of the utility service areas. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate job related material.
Work Environment: The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads and drainage, muddy areas, swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wed conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, and project preparation and progress reviews.
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED and minimum of two years of experience in utility maintenance required. Must have valid Driver’s License.
